About Me

Proform Sport Science is owned and run by myself, Dr Howard Hurst. Over the past 20 years I have held several lecturing positions at colleges and universities and for the past 15 years I have worked full time as a Senior Lecturer in Sport, Exercise & Nutritional Sciences at the University of Central Lancashire. As a result of my work and research with teams and individual athletes over the years I decided to set up Proform Sport Science in 2015 to provide expert consultancy on performance nutrition and coaching.

Along with my qualifications and consultancy work, I am also actively involved in sport science research, with particular interests in cycling and endurance sport performance, ergogenic aids and sports related traumatic brain injury and have published over 65 peer reviewed journal papers and book chapters. This ensures the advice provided to clients is backed up with scientific evidence and that I am informed on the latest developments in sport science and nutrition. 

 

As an athlete, I have over 25 years of racing experience in running and cycling and now compete in triathlon at all distances from Sprint to Ironman and have completed running events from 5km to 80km ultra marathons. This has given me a wealth of personal and practical experience to back up my academic knowledge.
