

Intermediate MTB skill course
About the course
This 'Intermediate MTB Skills' course is aimed at those who have already completed the 'Introduction to MTB Skill' course and/or riders with a few years experience who want to progress to the next level and be able to tackle more technical terrain. All 'Intermediate MTB Skills' courses takes place around the Lever Park and Healy Nab areas in Rivington in the West Pennine Moors. The intermediate course expands on the introductory level course by covering, amongst others, the following skills:

Advanced cornering

The 'Attack' Position

Line selection and reading the trails

Bunny Hops

Manuals

Introduction to jumping

Larger drop-offs
Course are limited to a maximum of 6 riders per course to allow ample time for practice during the day. Courses normally meet at 9:00am for a 9:30am start and last 4-5 hours (depending on group size) with a lunch break.
What to bring with you
This is an intermediate MTB skills course and whilst the pace will be steady (it's not a test of who's the fastest) you will be out for several hours. Therefore, you should be fit enough to ride for approximately 5 hours (with plenty of stops) before booking onto the course. Kit wise you will need to bring the following:

A suitable mountain bike in good working order* (eMTB's are not suitable for this course)

A helmet (must not have any cracks or signs of damage)*

Suitable clothing to ride in (padded cycling shorts are recommended)

A waterproof jacket (waterproof trousers and gloves are optional)

Elbow and shin pads (optional)

A small backpack to keep waterproofs in

A snack, drink and lunch

Some cash or card payment for the coffee stop at the end (optional)
It is important that your bicycle and helmet are fit for purpose and in full working order. It is recommended you have your local bike shop service your bike prior to attending the course. On the day, the course leader reserves the right to refuse anyone to ride if they deem their bicycle or helmet is unsafe. Whilst rare, in the event of not being allowed to ride you will not be eligible for a refund. Therefore, please make sure your bike is safe and go through the 'Pre-ride bike inspection checklist' found on the 'Enquiries, Bookings and T&C's' page here. All participants are also required to complete the Health screening form also found on the 'Enquiries, Bookings and T&C's' page, and return via email when making your booking. *Please note, we currently do not offer bicycle hire.

This course will be run within the grounds of the Lever Park Estate at Rivington, Lancashire. Please follow the directions for GoApe Rivington:

However, please do not turn into the GoApe carpark as this gets extremely busy. Please park along the long tree lined road directly opposite the GoApe carpark highlighted on the map below. If possible try to park at the bottom end of the road when you turn in and look for a Black VW Transporter with a Tentbox on top.
